A bus operator in Wellington is defending its decision to raise fares for some seniors.
Before the beginning of this month, people in 60 - 65 years age bracket could purchase a daily $5 senior away pass for offpeak travel between Hutt Valley and Wellington.
But after the introduction of the SuperGold card, which provides free offpeak travel for people over 65, they now have to pay $12.
Grey Power national president Les Howard says NZ Bus should restore the $5 fare.
But the company says as a result of seniors now being classified as 65 years plus, the senior away pass available to those over 60 is obsolete.
