Bus and train commuters in Wellington may have to pay higher fares next September.
Wellington Regional Council says it is too early to predict.
Public transport manager Brian Baxter says the necessary information will be known in June next year and passengers could pay an average of 10% more.
The regional council says there has been a passenger increase of more than 4%. But Mr Baxter says any rise in numbers also adds to bus and train costs.
