The Fire Service says it is vital that people stay out of burning houses.
Nine people in Christchurch have been injured in house fires this year after going back into burning buildings for various reasons.
Almost 30 people in Christchurch suffered house fire injuries in the past year and almost half of those were people returning to recover their belongings.
Fire Service area commander Dan Coward says the message "Get Out, Stay Out" is clearly not getting through to people.
He says people need to remember that their life is more important than their material possessions.
