State Highway One into Wellington was re-opened on Sunday following a fatal crash that killed two people on Saturday night.
The accident happened in the Southbound Lanes, near the Interisland Ferry terminal.
The police have yet to release the names of the two people killed.
A third person is in a serious condition in Wellington Hospital.
