An elderly tramper is safe and well after spending an unscheduled night outdoors while on a short tramping trip.
A search and rescue team was sent to the Fox Glacier area on Sunday morning to find the man, 76, who was reported missing after he failed to meet a friend on Saturday night.
However, the man made his own way out of the Coupland Track area and called police to say he was safe.
