The Rural Fire Authority says fire and water restrictions are being eased around the country, but some areas will take time to recover fully.
Long-running fire restrictions in the Gisborne-East Coast region were lifted on Friday, after the risk was deemed to have dropped to a comfortable level.
National Rural Fire Officer, Murray Dudfield, says restrictions are still in place in North Shore City, Waikato and Northland.
Other areas such as Hawke's Bay and Central Otago still suffer from lack of rain.
Mr Dudfield says the drying factor has eased, but it's going to take a while for sufficient rain to fall to get enough moisture into the ground.
