Skifields on Mount Ruapehu are preparing to open their more of their slopes this weekend.

Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, which operates the Whakapapa and Turoa skifields, expects upper and lower slopes will be open this weekend.
The firm opened lower slopes for beginners' skiing in time for the school holidays, which started this week.
It said 30cm of snow had fallen in the past two days with more forecast, and upper slopes should open soon too.
