A motorcyclist who was in a crash three years ago with a police car that did a U-turn says he knew someone would eventually die in a similar incident.
Motorbike racer Paul Brown, 38, was killed on Sunday when his Kawasaki road bike collided with a patrol car that was turning to chase a speeding vehicle, near Te Kauwhata in Waikato.
Brent Russell was one of two men injured in a similar incident in the Buller Gorge in 2007, which resulted in a police officer being sentenced for dangerous driving.
Mr Russell says he believes most motorcyclists are now very afraid of police officers on the roads.
Mr Brown's brother-in-law, Stuart Maxwell, says although strong willed, the motorcyclist wouldn't take unnecessary risks off the race track.
