Police have identified the man whose body was found washed up on Mt Maunganui Beach in Tauranga.

They have named the man as Benjamin Christopher Dahlkamp, 45, from Tauranga.
His body was discovered on the beach near Commons Avenue just before 8am.
Police said a member of the public led them to the body which was lying in the surf between Moturiki Island, also known as Leisure Island, and the main beach.
The Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service said the morning was sunny but calm, cold and crisp at the beach.
Its general manager Glen Bradley said he was aware a body had been found but it was not a lifeguard who made the discovery.
It would have been high tide at the beach about 7.20am, the same time as the sunrise.
