Officials request extended supervision for repeat sex offender

1:24 pm on 20 July 2016

The Corrections Department wants an extended supervision order for a repeat sex offender who indecently assaulted an elderly woman while previously subject to an order.

Eugene Hapie McCord was 33 years old when he was sentenced three years ago for indecently touching the elderly woman in her home.

At the sentencing for that, Justice Courtney described McCord's criminal record as shocking and noted it ran to more than 150 convictions, including sexual offending and kidnapping.

She said McCord was a menace to the community and imposed a three-year three-month sentence.

McCord has served that, and Corrections again wants him to be subject to a supervision order.

Today, in the High Court in Auckland, Justice Lang adjourned the application and the matter will be back in court in two weeks.
