4:44 pm on 20 July 2016

Police are looking for a man who indecently assaulted a woman on Auckland's Mt Wellington.

The woman was walking back down the mountain from the summit, when a man started to follow her about 10am on Sunday 3 July.

He urinated in front of her, then grabbed her and assaulted her, police said.

She managed to fight him off and he ran away.

Police believe the man headed back to a light-coloured van at the summit.

Mt Wellington is a reasonably busy place on Sunday morning, and police were hoping someone might have witnessed the assault, or have information about the attacker. Police urged anyone who took photos up the mountain that day to contact them.

The man was described as Māori or Pacific Islander, between 25 and 30, wearing shorts, with dark or black curly hair about collar length and a slight moustache and stubble on his cheeks.
