Passenger mistake triggers alarm at Auckland Airport

3:21 pm on 26 July 2016

A security alert was raised at Auckland Airport this afternoon by a passenger forcing their way back through a sterile screening area.

The passenger, who has not been identified, went through pre-flight screening just after 2pm but decided to push back through into the sterile area, triggering an alarm.

Civil Aviation spokesperson Mike Richards said no threats were made and there was no danger to any of the passengers but, as a result, a large number of people were being re-screened.

This kind of incident, where a passenger forgot something and tried to go back through, had happened before, he said - and one person's carelessness could cause a lot of inconvenience.

Some minor delays to flights were expected, he said.
