Body found on moored boat in Nelson

The death of a Nelson man whose body was found on a boat on Thursday morning is being treated as suspicious by police.

Investigators were at the scene of the unexplained death on Queen Elizabeth II Drive, which runs along the city's waterfront, and expected to remain there for several days.

The body was found on a boat moored opposite a skate park about 10.45am.

Detective Inspector Paul Borrell said police already had some "positive leads" from the public but they were seeking more information.

"State Highway 6, or QEII Drive, is the main route in and out of Nelson and popular with commuters. Lots of people would have driven past the scene and we'd like to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area overnight or this morning."
