Auckland's future development blueprint - the Unitary Plan - is almost complete, despite the mayor admitting he didn't agree with the whole plan.

Councillors have spent the past three days working through a version rewritten by an independent hearings panel, and have accepted most of its decisions.

These include a higher level of housing density than originally proposed, nearly three years ago.

A final vote is expected on Monday, and Mayor Len Brown has told councillors they needed to accept that they might not like every detail.

"I don't agree with this whole plan. But not agreeing with some doesn't mean I don't vote for the whole thing, recognising that you've got to make concessions."
