Museum relents on memorial sculpture

The New Zealand RAF Bomber Command Association is thrilled at a decision allow a memorial sculpture to be kept at the Auckland War Memorial Museum on a temporary basis.

Last month the museum changed its mind on the $100,000 sculpture, which it had initially approved; and told the association it was too heavy to be kept there. It weighed almost half a tonne.

The association says veterans are very satisfied with the outcome.

The sculpture will now stay at the museum for an official unveiling and will remain there on an interim basis until a permanent location can be found.

The association says an unveiling will be held before ANZAC Day.
