A 17-year-old Wanaka student is in a serious but stable condition after being admitted to hospital with meningococcal disease.

In a Facebook post, Mount Aspiring College principal Wayne Bosley said the Year 13 student was taken to Dunedin Hospital on Monday.
Mr Bosley said the school had been advised to continue with business as usual.
In a public notice, Otago Southland medical officer Marion Poore said 10 people who had been in close contact with the student had been offered an antibiotic to reduce the risk of contracting the bacterial infection.
Dr Poore said meningococcal disease was transmitted only by close personal contact that allowed the bacteria to pass from the nose and throat of one person to another.
She said she had not been advised of any other cases.
Brittany Arthur, a 20-year-old nursing student at Otago Polytechnic, died in Dunedin Hospital last month after suddenly falling sick from the disease.
