A firefighter has been injured in an Auckland house fire.

Two crews were called to the home in Mistletoe Place in the suburb of Browns Bay about 11.30am.

Fire Service spokesperson Jaron Phillips said the owner had hot ashes in a cardboard box which he placed outside, next to a wood pile, against the house, which then caught fire.

Mr Phillips said the owner lost his car in the blaze and part of his home.

He said one firefighter was injured but he could not say what, or how serious it was.
