Four children aged between seven and 11 were taken to hospital with burns after a house fire in Nelson last night.
The fire started in the kitchen of a property on Weka Street at about 8pm on Friday night.
The fire service said five children managed to get out of the house by the time they arrived, but four of them had suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital by ambulance.
The spokesperson said the damage to the house has made it unlivable for the family, and the fire was not thought to be suspicious.
Victim support is helping two adults and the children.
