Police hunt for offender after Napier school lockdown

1:17 pm on 15 September 2016

A school in the Napier suburb of Maraenui was locked down this morning, and police are still looking for an offender near the area.

William Colenso College was put in lockdown at 9am as armed police responded to an incident in the area.

The school said the cordon had since been lifted.

A police spokeswoman said parties involved were known to each and one of the people is armed, but there have been no reports of shots fired.

She did not have details of what sparked the incident or armed police response.

A cordon is in place along Riverbend Road between Arnold Street and Henry Charles Crescent, and members of the public nearby have been asked to stay away.
