Wellington's James Cook Hotel was evacuated this evening following reports of smoke on the 16th floor.

Guests were ordered out of the building and gathered on The Terrace for around 30 minutes.

Seven fire trucks attended.

Guests were eventually let back in, after it was believed the smoke was caused by an electrical fault.
