Chch Council company's profit up 6 percent

The Christchurch City Council has welcomed a windfall from its investment group for the 2016 financial year.

Christchurch City Holdings owns the lines company Orion, Lyttelton Port and the Christchurch International Airport, among other businesses.

Underlying profit for the group is up just under 6 percent for the year to $138 million.

Christchurch City Holdings chief executive Paul Munro said the airport's growth had boosted a good result across its businesses.

"They delivered strong financial returns on the back of an increase in passenger numbers, they had an all time record 6.3 million passengers through th eterminal."

Mr Munro said the airport's continued development of its property portfolio also played a part in its strong returns.
