Police are using new technology to search for a hunter who disappeared on Stewart Island more than 25 years ago.
Joe Freiman went missing while on a hunting trip in May 1991, and no trace of the 64-year-old farmer has ever been found.
Stewart Island community constable Dale Jenkins said the search area was in one of the most remote parts of New Zealand, and new radio-transmitting technology - SARTrack - would help police co-ordinate the search teams.
More than 70 officers and volunteers will travel to Stewart Island this weekend for the operation.
