Jail for Christchurch man who took up-skirt images

9:18 pm on 10 October 2016

A man who took photos up women's skirts in a Christchurch shopping mall has been sentenced to 20 months in prison.

Maurice Hemi Williams earlier pleaded guilty to one charge of taking intimate visual recordings, one of breaching a protection order and another of breaching a supervision sentence.

The 32-year-old spent a year in prison for similar offences in 2011.

The police said Williams put his phone in a shopping basket at a supermarket and swung it near women to get the photos.

In the Christchurch District Court today, Judge Gerard Winter said one victim had told the court the incident shocked her and she did not feel comfortable shopping anymore.

Judge Winter also ordered Williams not to possess a mobile phone that could take photos for six months after his release.
