Moses Mahanga, 25, was found dead of a gunshot wound in a white Mitsubishi Lancer in Otangarei last Tuesday night.

Police said they were interested in sightings of that vehicle, but they were also appealing for sightings of a small grey car seen in the area at the time of the shooting, or soon after.

A large contingent of gang members on motorbikes gathered in Otangarei yesterday, as the site of the shooting was blessed by a local minister.

Mr Mahanga's tangi is being held at his home marae at Waiomio in Bay of Islands.
