A 21-year-old Cromwell man has appeared in the Queenstown District Court charged with importing half a kilogram of drugs worth more than $200,000.

Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis said they were testing the drug, but believed it was ecstasy imported from Poland.

Four packages of the drug destined for unoccupied holiday homes in Clyde were intercepted, he said.

It was the second arrest of its kind in Central Otago recently.

Mr Inglis said the police were disappointed young people saw importing drugs as an easy way to make money.
