The event marking the Royal New Zealand Navy's 75th anniversary has been declared a 'Major Maritime Event', meaning restrictions for all other vessels in the area.

Twelve countries, including the United States, will participate in the International Review from 10-22 November.

Vessels not involved will have to stay clear of restricted zones in Waitemata Harbour, Rangitoto Channel and sections of the Inner Hauraki Gulf.

There would also be a 12-knot speed limit in the Auckland Harbour, and diving or swimming would be prohibited.

Transport Minister Simon Bridges said the movement restrictions around the Review area and the participating vessels were "intended to ensure the safety of everyone on the water, including people who are not part of the event".

"Many harbour users will be familiar from previous experience with the way that Auckland Council and event organisers manage the day-to-day conduct of these occasions", he said.

"For example, the relevant legislation was originally put in place prior to the America's Cup."

Detailed information about transport arrangements, including maps of restricted zones, would be available from Auckland Council and event organisers.
