A five-minute chase began when officers tried to stop a car on Farquhar Road in Glendene about 8.15am.

The fleeing car rammed a police car before being forced to a halt by road spikes on McLeod Road in Te Atatu.

Police said the driver, 27, then threatened officers with a knife, so pepper spray was used, followed by a taser.

The driver was arrested along with a passenger, 30, who had a warrant out for his arrest.
