Wellington's new mayor says he does not want Wellington's housing situation to "become another Auckland".
Justin Lester told RNZ his three "headline priorities" in his first term are the economy and job creation, transport and housing.
Despite the size of those issues, he did not think it would be a big-spend council.
"We'll take every decision in isolation. We'll ask, is this in the best interests of Wellington? If it is, we'll do it, and if it isn't we won't."
