A man is in custody after members of the public captured him smashing windows in a central Wellington mall.
Police say they had 16 calls in three minutes from concerned people in Manners Mall on Thursday after a man broke the windows of Michael Hill Jewellers, Banks Shoes and at least two others shops with a metal bar.
People in the mall caught and held the man until police arrived to arrest him.
He is expected to be charged on Thursday.
