A man has drowned while swimming near Marine Parade in Napier this afternoon.
The Hawke's Bay rescue helicopter was called to the scene shortly after 3pm, but the man was dead on arrival.
He was found about 20m from shore.
His body was airlifted to Hawke's Bay Hospital.
More than 60 people have drowned in New Zealand waters this year.
