A scrub fire that threatened 30 homes in Kawakawa in the Far North this evening is being treated as suspicious.
The Fire Service said a helicopter with a monsoon bucket was used to contain the fire, which covered 3000 square metres of scrub.
It said appliances from Kaikohe have been called in to help fight the fire, which was brought under control a short time ago.
