Charges have been laid against two men over a crash in which four people died in Waikato.

The pair, both 20, are charged with street racing causing death and street racing causing injury.

The crash happened late at night on State Highway 3 near Ohaupo in June.

At the time police said it appeared a car heading north came around a slight left-hand bend on the wrong side of the road and, in correcting, lost control and hit a van.

They said the car might have been travelling with another vehicle, and they were investigating links to the illegal car racing scene.

The four young people who died were in the car.

The accused will appear in the Hamilton District Court on 13 December.
