One person is dead and five others are injured - three seriously - after a crash south of Whangarei.
The crash, which involved three cars and a light truck, was on State Highway One at Ruakaka about 4.45pm, police said.
"One person has died and three others are seriously injured."
Two of the injured people were taken to Whangarei Hospital.
Diversions were in place for about four hours. A serious crash unit would investigate.
St John said five people were injured in total.
