Man with leg-wound found hours after Foxton gunshots

3:27 pm on 20 November 2016

The police are investigating whether there is a link between gunshots in the Manawatu town of Foxton last night, and a man found a few hours later with a leg-wound.

About 7:30 last night, multiple calls were received regarding shots heard in the Main Street and Johnston Street areas of Foxton.

A number of streets in Foxton were cordoned off for several hours last night and residents were told to stay indoors.

Detective Sergeant Dave Wishnowsky said officers used road spikes to stop a ute that they suspected had false registration plates about 4.30 this morning near Levin.

He said the three men in the ute were arrested and one of them was treated for a possible gunshot wound to his leg.

No charges have been laid at this stage.

Mr Wishnowsky said the incident was believed to be gang-related.
