Police say they are treating a crash involving a motorcyclist and a van near Te Kaha in Bay of Plenty yesterday as suspicious.

The motorcyclist died at the scene on State Highway 35 opposite the Raukokere Marae.

Police are still searching for a white Honda Odyssey-type van driving in the area yesterday afternoon between 2pm and 3pm.

They're appealing to the public for any information they may have.

Meanwhile, a second motorcyclist has died today, following a collision with a car on State Highway 25 south of Tairua this afternoon.

The crash happened just before 3.30pm, on a rural section of the highway between Tairua and Whangamata, in Waikato.

State Highway 25 has been closed between the intersection with SH25A and Opoutere Road and diversions are in place.
