A Wellington property company owned by Terry Serepisos says it has paid the majority of rates due to Wellington City Council.

Mr Serepisos is the owner of the football team the Wellington Phoenix and the host of The Apprentice TV series.

The Dominion Post newspaper previously reported he owed $2 million in overdue rates.

Mr Serepisos says all remaining rates owing would be paid in due course.

In a statement, his company, Century City, said payments yet to be made to the council are for rates that are not yet overdue.

It said it received no special treatment from the council and it expected none.
