The company that runs the bungy jump at Hanmer Springs says staff are very upset by Friday's accident in which a tourist suffered serious injuries.
The Australian woman was hurt when she made the 30 metre jump from Ferry Bridge in the Waiau River gorge.
She was taken to Christchurch Hospital by helicopter.
The Thrillseekers Adventures bungy operation is now closed as the police and the Department of Labour investigate the accident.
A company spokesperson, Blair Hartland, says the first priority is to find out exactly what happened.
