Seven candidates will contest a local board by-election in Auckland, prompted by a politician who resigned within minutes of being sworn in.
The seven will seek the seat on the Botany subdivision of the Howick Local Board, following the resignation of Lucy Schwaner, the wife of local National MP Jami-Lees Ross.
Ms Schwaner was elected to the Howick Local Board, but when she failed to be chosen as chairperson after being sworn-in, she quit, triggering a by-election.
Auckland Council said Ms Schwaner was paid $1592.32 after tax, for the almost three weeks between election confirmation on 16 October and quitting on 4 November.
The Vision and Voice ticket, for which Ms Schwaner stood, is not contesting the election, despite holding all but one of the seats on the board.
The by-election in February will cost ratepayers $104,000.
