Closing arguments have begun in the murder trial of a woman killed in a hit-and-run in a supermarket carpark in Manukau City.

Christopher Shadrock is charged in the High Court at Auckland with the murder of Joanne Wang in June 2008.

Five other men are accused of being accessories.

The Crown says the accused stole Mrs Wang's handbag and deliberately ran her over as she chased him to get it back.

But the defence says the jury should consider a verdict of manslaughter as he never meant to kill Mrs Wang.
