Holidaymakers will be happy to hear the outlook is bright for the rest of the summer.
Niwa says temperatures are likely to be average or above average for most regions.
Forecaster Chris Brandolino said rainfall was also expected to be near normal for most of the country, except the east of the South Island, where it will be average or below average.
He said the outlook should mean more days at the beach, and barbecues for those on holiday.
Mr Brandolino said it wouldn't take too many dry days in a row for moisture to evaporate from the ground.
