Police have released the name of the man whose body washed up on Auckland's Muriwai Beach on Christmas Eve morning.
The body of 66-year-old Michael John Bampton, of Avondale, was found by a member of the public.

The police said the circumstances of his death were not suspicious and the matter had been referred to the Coroner.
Mr Bampton's was the second body to be found in a week on Muriwai Beach.
A body believed to be that of missing 24-year-old swimmer was found on 21 December.
The man had been swimming at nearby Piha on 17 December and was reported missing that evening.
