A man has died this afternoon while diving at a beach near Masterton.
Emergency services were called when the diver got into trouble while diving off the coast of Riversdale Beach, about 70 kilometres east of Masterton.
The incident happened at about 2pm at the north end of the beach.
The diver was pulled from the water and given CPR by surf lifesaving staff, but the man could not be revived.
Police were now identifying the man and will notify his next of kin.
