Alex Petersen, 14, went missing on 19 December

After he was found he met with his father Stan Hunt, but RNZ understands Alex was placed in the care of Child, Youth and Family last night, after being checked by a doctor.

Mr Hunt had been leading the search for his son, and told RNZ he had found out that Alex had been dealing with constant bullying at school.

He said he talked to several of Alex's school friends and was shocked by what they told him had been happening at Marlborough Boys College.

He said the bullying included racial insults.
