A man has died after being hit by a vehicle on State Highway 8, near Airport Road in Alexandra.

Police and ambulance staff were called to the incident around 5.45pm.
The man was initially reported to be in a critical condition, but died shortly afterwards.
Police said the road remained closed between Clyde and Alexandra. Diversions were in place via Airport Road, Dunstan Road and Springvale Road.
The Serious Crash Unit had been advised and were on their way to the scene.
