Police are on the hunt for the St John medical bag that vanished after a call-out at a Papakura address at about 8pm yesterday.

Ambulance staff were treating a 13-year-old boy who was in a serious condition after coming off his bike.

Inspector Matt Hoyes of the Counties Manukau police said the scene was very volatile and a number of people were heavily intoxicated.

He said ambulance staff left the scene quickly and took the patient to hospital after people at the address were aggressive towards them.

He said in their haste they did not realise that a medical supplies bag was missing.

Police said it was unclear at this stage whether the bag had been taken while ambulance staff were at the scene or inadvertently left behind by staff.

The ambulance staff returned to the scene with police to find it, but were unsuccessful.

Police were now investigating and have asked anyone with information to come forward.
