Que Langdon arrives back in NZ

1:53 pm on 19 January 2017

The six-year-old girl whose father sailed to Australia with her in the midst of a custody dispute has arrived back in New Zealand with her mother.

Que Langdon and her father, Alan Langdon, were the subject of a large police search after they left Kawhia in a small yacht before Christmas, but did not arrive in the Bay of Islands as intended.

They turned up three weeks later in coastal New South Wales, in the six-metre catamaran.

Que and her mother, Ariane Wyler, landed at Auckland Airport a short time ago.

Ms Wyler said it was "fantastic" to be back and thanked Search and Rescue for their efforts.

New Zealand police then initiated court proceedings under the Care of Children Act and a 49-year-old man is due to appear in the Te Awamutu District Court next week.

RNZ understands Que's passport, which was held by the New Zealand family court at the time of a hearing last year, has been returned.
