A New Plymouth man convicted of possessing child pornography has been struck off as a pharmacist.

Geoffrey Clifford Allen, 63, accessed, printed and disposed of the material at the Fitzroy Pharmacy, which he owned and operated.
In December 2015 he was convicted of 17 charges of offences relating to the possession and knowledge of objectionable publications. He was sentenced to seven months' home detention.
The Pharmacy Council's professional conduct committee took Allen's case to the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal in November. The tribunal subsequently ordered him to be censured and his registration to be cancelled.
He had to pay $500 in costs.
Allen, who was a pharmacist for 38 years, has worked part-time in garden maintenance since October 2015.
