A member of the public discovered a man's body on the rocks at Paekakariki this morning.
Police said the body was found around 9.15am, and the man's death was not believed to be suspicious or self inflicted.
A formal identification of the man is expected to be completed this afternoon and a post-mortem will be carried out tomorrow.
Police said the man's death would be referred to the coroner.
