One person has died after a car crash on State Highway 12 near Matakohe, in Kaipara, Northland.

Northland police said the car went off the road about 1.40pm today. The driver died at the scene.
No other vehicles were thought to be involved. Police believed the driver was the car's sole occupant.
The Serious Crash Unit would investigate the cause of the crash. Diversions were in place while the scene was examined.
