Police avert motorway cat-astrophe

12:10 pm on 10 February 2017

Traffic was paused as police in Auckland averted a motorway catastrophe by a whisker this morning.

A kitten was spotted on the Newmarket flyover, which led to police closing the northbound lanes as they tried to catch the little black and white animal.

The kitten was last seen running off into bushes on Gillies Avenue, and motorists have been advised not to stop if they see it, but call 111 instead so it can be caught and removed.
